◆Astronomy and Space Examination Collaboration Event

In collaboration with the "Astronomy and Space Examination," we will hold an event where you can experience Exhibition by Mayumi Umemoto, also known as the Observatory Madam, and Hiromichi Ito, a visiting professor and curator at Seisa University, and a mock exam of the "Astronomy and Space Examination." Participants will receive a certificate of attendance with an illustration by Reiji Matsumoto. *The mock exam will be at the 3rd to 4th grade level.

Observatory Madame Mayumi Umemoto

  • Astronomy writer whose husband is an astronomer. She writes humorous stories from the National Astronomical Observatory in the "Observatory Madame Diary," serials in astronomy magazines, writes for various media, and also gives talks and lectures making use of her experience in reporting. She is also a Level 2 Astronomy and Space Examination certified. She is one of the authors of the Level 4 Astronomy and Space Examination textbook.

Hiromichi Ito, Visiting Professor and Curator, Seisa University

  • He has worked at Hiratsuka City Museum as a curator of astronomy since 1976. In addition to planning and implementing planetarium operations for a wide range of audiences, from infants to students and the elderly, he has also been involved in special astronomy exhibitions, outreach activities, and written catalogs. He has served as the director of Hiratsuka City Museum and the chairman of the Japan Planetarium Council. He is currently a visiting professor and curator at Seisa University, and head of the SEISA Astronomy Club. His publications include "Mars Guidebook" and "Jupiter and Saturn Guidebook" (Koseisha Koseisha Publishing Co., Ltd.), among others.

What is the "Astronomy and Space Examination"?

A qualification test on astronomy and space. There are test questions of different levels of difficulty, from 1st to 4th grade. It is a test that can be taken by a wide range of people, from elementary school students to those with knowledge of specialized subjects at university level. The next test will be held on Sun. November 16, 2025.
